Abstract

[Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A sheet metal building slab of parallelopiped form is provided along its sides and ends with inwardly and backwardly bent flanges e whereby adjacent slabs may be keyed together by means of split tubes or channel members s which, when slid into keying position, lie wholly within the thickness of the slabs. As shown, each wall slab comprises a metal frame of channel section a-c, covering layers of insulating material f and sheet metal g on both faces, and a packing h of insulating material. Similar slabs are provided with window openings or door transoms and sills, the frame members being suitably rebated. The bottom of a slab may be secured to a foundation by its flanges e and a channel member w wedged to lugs t projecting from the foundation. The top of a slab may be connected similarly to a channel member or flanges associated with a ceiling unit; or the top of a slab may be connected to an upper storey slab by means of a plate z welded to the latter, Fig. 11, and a channel member 21 forced into engagement with the flanges of the lower slab by a bolt 22. Corner pieces with flanges e are provided for completing corners formed by placing two slabs at right angles. Where two walls intersect, Fig. 9, adjacent slabs of one wall are connected by keying tubes s which are provided with integral T-section members y adapted to key with the flanges e of the slabs of the other wall. After assembly of the units, the tubes s may be fllled with cement or concrete.
