Abstract

571,583. Operating clutches. HOOVER, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1944, No. 3508. Convention date, April 26, 1943. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] In a fan suction cleaner comprising a final separator 33 surrounded by a fabric filter 34, dirt is removed from the latter by suction applied to the narrow mouth of a filter cleaning nozzle 42 mounted on a tubular arm 43 connected to a hollow boss 44 concentrically and rotatably mounted on the motor shaft 32, rotation being effected by means of a reduction gear and an automaticallycontrolled magnetic clutch located within a housing 54 below the motor 29. Within inlet front 22 to which a flexible hose is normally connected is mounted a spring- controlled pin 24, Fig. 8, carrying a valve 23 which remains open until the back pressure set up by the filter fabric 33 results in the extension of bellows 96 (connected with chamber 33 by conduit 104) the upper rigid spring-loaded wall 97 of which closes the valve 23 by rocking a bell-crank lever 108 attached to a spring 112 which spring closes an electric switch 117 thus energizing the solenoid of the magnetic clutch resulting in rotation of the filter-cleaning nozzle. In an alternative construction, Fig. 11, a conduit 126 connects the main nozzle 22 with the bellows 96, which extend when the main nozzle 10 is removed from the surface to be cleaned resulting in the valve 23 fitted with stop being partly closed and the clutch operated to actuate the cleaning nozzle.
