Abstract
569,468. Alloys. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 19, 1941, No. 12051. Convention date, Jan. 6. [Class 82 (i)] White iron castings suitable for annealing or malleableizing are made by including in a composition which would otherwise form a grey or mottled iron a small amount of bismuth, e.g. 0.002-0.02 per cent. A graphitizer equivalent in effect to at least 1.3 per cent of silicon may be included, and also manganese, copper, molybdenum and other elements.' In general, the constituents of the irons may fall within the following ranges : 1-3.5 per cent of carbon, 0.5-2.5 per cent of silicon, 0.3-1.75 per cent of manganese, 0.25-2 per cent of copper, 0.1-0.75 per cent of molybdenum and 0.002-0.02 per cent of bismuth.
