Abstract

568,612. Raising sunken ships. CREED, F. G., and FLOATING STATIONS, Ltd. July 1, 1943, No. 10719. [Class 113 (ii)] [Also in Group XXI] A floating platform 19 is supported by bridgework connecting the upper ends of columnar buoyant members 3 ... 7, of which the lower ends are secured in and blank out parts of the upper portions of horizontal tubular buoyant members 1, 2. As shown, the platform may be provided with lifting gear 22 ... 24 so that when positioned over a submerged vessel V, the latter may be raised. Alternatively, the platform may be used for sinking piles or caissons or may serve as a floating relay or refuelling station. Examples of the dimensions of the buoyant members are given and the effects of sub-surface waves on the structure are discussed.
