Abstract

1462047 Floating docks; raising sunken vessels E SEATON 7 March 1974 [3 March 1973] 11367/73 Heading B7S A floating dock comprises a submersible pontoon 10 having internal buoyancy tanks which are connected by flexible pipes to a pump on a support structure which comprises a quay, a sea bed base, or a self-propelled floating complementary hull 11, as shown, and the vertical movement of the pontoon 10 is controlled by a parallel linkage which as shown comprises arms 14 and in alternative embodiments comprises either similar arms connected to a quay or to anchoring elements on the sea bed base adjacent a quay. Raising sunken vessels.-The embodiment shown may be used to raise a sunken vessel by connecting wires between the sunken vessel and the pontoon 10 and hull 11, fully submerging the pontoon 10 whilst taking up consequent wire slack by winches on the pontoon, and then deballasting the pontoon and thereby lifting the sunken vessel.
