568,247. Chucks. FRY, C. R., and BRISTOL AGENCIES, Ltd. Nov. 15, 1943, No. 19000. [Class 83 (iii)] Chucks for taps, reamers and like tools have means for grippirig the square end and also for centralising the shank. A cap 1 screws on the body 2 for axial movement of a coned ring 9 engaging bevel surfaces 7 on jaws 5 moving in guides in the body. A spring wire ring 10 passes through holes in the jaws to make them self-opening. The rear of the cap is coned to engage the bevelled ends of jaws 14 formed at 17 to engage the square and drilled for crosspins 18 that acts as abutments for opening springs 16 in holes in the body parallel to the slot for the jaws. The body is also bored out to receive a hardened centre 20 to engage the end of the tap. A closing ring 11 secured to the cap excludes cuttings.
