[Class 83 (iii)] In a bevel closing chuck, the collet is first contracted by longitudinal movement of a ring member and finally by rotating a transverse cam that gives a further movement to the ring. A ring member 40, Fig. 1, screws on to a secondary actuating member 20 and both are slidably mounted on the body 10. A transverse pin 30 is mounted in a cross-head 17 in a slot in the body and has eccentric ends 31, 33 engaging holes on the member 20. The pin is formed at 35 to receive a key. In a modification, the cross-head 17 is omitted and the pin 30 is mounted directly in elongated slots in the body. In another modification, the ring member 40 is omitted and the member 20 is extended beyond the forward end of the body and provided with internal screw-threads to engage co-operating threads on the collet. In a further modification, for use with jaw type chucks, the jaws 60, Fig. 8, are mounted in a spacer 61 and fit inside the tapered end of the body 10A. A ring member 40A encloses the jaws and is screwed to the distance piece whilst its opposite end is threadably engaged with a sliding member 20 as before. In a further form, the end of the body is slotted to receive the jaws.
