Abstract
389,420. Chucks. LEMAY, G., 114, Route de Flandre, La Courneuve, Seine, France. Oct. 28, 1932, No. 30323. Convention, date, Oct. 28, 1931. [Class 83 (iii).] A three-jaw chuck of the bevel-closing type is constructed so that the working surfaces of the jaws remain parallel during adjustment, a bevelled thrust ring for the latter purpose housing a sleeve adapted to bear resiliently against the ends of the jaws. The jaws b with gripping faces c, d at their ends are arranged between distance pieces f, which are attached to the main housing a by screws g, and are forced inwards to grip a work-piece by the similarly bevelled ends b<1>, b<2> engaging the nose of the housing and a sleeve piece e respectively, the latter being axially adjustable by a screw piece m. The jaws are maintained with working surfaces parallel by a sleeve h pressed against their faced ends by a spiral spring i. Springs k anchored in the distance pieces, Fig. 4, and engaging holes in the jaws return the latter to their open position and also tend to force them towards the right, Fig. 1. The separate springs may be replaced by a single coil spring passing through a hole in each of the jaws.
