Abstract

567,870. Propelling and steering watercraft. FOULGER, A. E. Sept. 20, 1943, No. 15373. [Class 114] In propulsion gear for watercraft in which pressure fluid is discharged through a submerged outlet in the hull, the outlet being rotatable for steering purposes, two outlets 16 are spaced apart longitudinally of the hull 13 and are supplied with pressure fiuid by a single centrifugal pump 10 through tangential passages 15 containing valves for individually controlling the delivery to the two outlets. The pump inlet 20 is curved forwardly and provided with a grating 21. Each outlet 16 includes a nozzle 19 of laterally elongated section with a hinged flap 29 of channel section. The flap is normally held in its projected position by a link 41, a shaft 36, and an adjustable spring 38. The nozzles 19 are angularly adjustable independently by means of hollow shafts 32 and pulleys 35, flexible driving members 43, 44 and hand wheels 49, 52. The Provisional Specification is not limited to the use of two outlets.
