Abstract

558,403. Oil engines. WYNDHAM HEWITT, Ltd., and GREEN. G. W. A. Sept. 25, 1942, No. 13510. [Class 7 (iii)] In a fuel injector in which a needle valve 6 loaded by a spring 19 is movable axially by fuel pressure from its seat in a nozzle member 3 at the end of the injector, a guide sleeve 10 for the valve has diametral clearance in the injector body so that the needle valve spindle 9 may position it accurately relatively to the valve seat. To limit the opening of the valve a shoulder 8 thereon engages the lower end of the sleeve 10 which is held down by a distance piece 11 screwed into the outer end of the injector. The spring 19 is located at the outer end of the injector and engages a seating washer 18 on a member 15 the tapered lower end 16 of which centres itself in the upper end of the valve spindle 9. In a inodification, the lower end of the distance piece 11 is hollowed out to surround the reduced upper end of the guide sleeve 10, the lower end of the distance piece engaging a shoulder on the sleeve.
