Abstract

554,381. Controllers; electromagnetic switches. MALLETT, H. C., and FERRARI, A. Dec. 29, 1941, No. 16744. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v)] A motor controller, such as for a vehicle, comprises a spindle 10, rotated by a handle or pedal, to position the pole 14 of an electromagnet 13 in sequence opposite a series of contactor armatures 15 (only one is shown in the drawing). As the pole 14 comes opposite an armature 15, a cam trigger 31 rides over the end of a latch bar 28 and closes a switch 36, the armature is attracted to close contacts 16, 17 in the motor circuit and is latched close by notch 29 engaging a fixed bar 30, and the end of the bar 28 falls and causes switch 36 to open. Reverse rotation of shaft 10 causes a cam projection 39 to engage the underside of the latch-bars in sequence and allow the corresponding contacts 16, 17 to open.
