Abstract
551,801. Gas meters. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and SIMPSON, S. Oct. 13, 1941, No. 13155. [Class 54] Water or other liquid deposited in a dry gas meter may be withdrawn on the removal of a valve plug 2 from a valve body 1 fitted at the lower part of the meter casing. The plug 2 has a leather or rubber facing 3 and is normally held against its seating by a threaded plug 5 formed with a square or polygonal recess 7 in its upper face for the insertion of a removal key. A cap 8 may be secured by a pin 9 and sealing wax above the plug 5. The upper part of the valve aperture communicates by a pipe 16 with a diaphragm chamber and the lower part directly or through a separate passage way with the meter casing. Alternatively the liquid may be discharged through a three-way or other valve of the tapered plug type. A valve body fitted with a single valve may be connected to all four measuring chambers of the meter.
