Abstract
549,385. Scaffold clamps. MANN, W. G., and STEEL SCAFFOLDING CO., Ltd. April 15, 1941, No. 1480/42. Divided out of 549,359: [Class 20 (ii)] A scaffold clamp comprises a U-shaped main body member 1 adapted to embrace a scaffold tube 2, upstanding projections 3, 4 with ends twisted at an angle of 45 degrees to the body of the clamp and disposed at opposite sides and ends of the main member, a hinged clamping cap 6 disposed at an angle of 45 degrees to the axis of the main member, and with its under face grooved to receive a tube 2a disposed with its axis either parallel to or at right angles to the axis of the tube 2, and a pad 11 with its upper and lower faces grooved to receive the tubes 2, 2a disposed between the tubes. The pad is linked to the side of the main member so that it can be swung aside to allow the tube 2 to be placed in the main body member. The clamping is effected by a bolt 7 pivoted to the projection 4 entering the bifurcated end 10 of the clamping cap which is pivoted to the other projection 3 of the U-shaped member. The bifurcated end of the cap may be provided with ridges 8 to prevent slip of the nut of the bolt 7.
