Abstract

476,783. Wood-screws. WOODLEY, G. T. K. Feb. 16, 1937, No. 4608. [Class 89 (ii)] A wood-screw comprises a shank having an unthreaded portion 2, a threaded portion 1 and at least one outwardly directed lug 4 formed on the unthreaded portion, the said lug sloping from its extremity to its junction with the shank in the direction of rotation of the screw in screwing it into the wood. The lug or lugs 4 is or are provided to prevent retrograde rotation. In the form shown, two lugs 4 are provided, the one being diametrically opposed but axially displaced with respect to the other : the axial displacement preferably corresponds to the lead of the thread. The lugs are of crescent shape with the inner wall undercut. In one form, a shoulder 9 is provided on the shank at its junction with the head 3.
