Abstract

535,075. Toothed gearing: fluid-pressure servomotors. MAXSON CORPORATION, W. L. Oct. 4, 1939, No. 27185. Convention date, July 15. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A high torque shaft 44 is driven in unison with a low power control shaft 70 by driving the shaft 44 by means of gears 41, 42, Fig. 7, operated by differential gears from shafts 13, 14 driven by gearing from a high power motor M, indicated diagrammatically in Fig 1. The shaft 44 is connected by gears 84, 82, 83, with the shaft 70, so that the shafts 44, 70 normally synchronize, and any lack of synchronization of the shaft brings into operation mechanism which restores synchronization. This mechanism comprises braking means in the form of gear pumps 47, 48 : 49, 50 driven from the shafts 31, 32 of the gears 41, 42. The shafts 31, 32 are attached to the planet gear carriers of planet wheels co-operating with sun wheels 35, 36, and input gears 17, 18 of the differential gearing driven by the motor M. The gear pumps direct streams of oil to opposite sides of a cylinder 87 in which is a piston 88, and a valve 58 controls the outflow of oil so that normally the outflow of oil from the pumps maintains the piston 88 in mid position and a brake comprising adjustable shoes 108 on levers 105 is applied by a spring 106 to brake the shaft 44. The valve 58 is carried by a lever fitted with a pin 79 engaged by a slot in an arm 77 free on the shaft 70. This arm is moved out of its normal position when the gears 83, 84 are not rotating equally, and so the valve is then operated to restore equality of movement, and the brake 108 provided is for the purpose of preventing " hunting " movement.
