Abstract
542,145. Producing nickel-iron powder for magnetic cores. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ROSEBY, P. N. June 25, 1940, No. 10838. [Class 38 (ii)] Nickel-iron powder for use in the manufacture of dust cores for loading coils &c. is prepared by mixing nickel powder, produced for example by the carbonyl process, with iron oxide or iron oxalate, heating the mixture to 600‹-1200‹ C. in a reducing atmosphere such as hydrogen, and crushing the sintered mass. The final particle size may be determined by the size of the particles of the nickel powder if the particles of the oxide or oxalate are much smaller than the nickel particles so as to form a coating thereon. The final powder may, however, be ground in a ball mill if accurate determination of particle size is required.
