Abstract

541,337. Windows. HEYNE, P. L., and RIEDER, H. J. R. May 18, 1940, No. 8900. [Class 20 (iii)] A window is mounted on its frame 1 by top and bottom pairs of pivoted arms 3, 4, of different lengths. The arm 4 is pivoted adjacent the hanging style 11, and the arm 3 substantially at midpoint of the sash rail. The fixing plates 10 are secured to the sill 12 slightly closer together than would be determined by the arms 3, 4 when the window is closed, so that the window tends to bind in the closed position. The window is opened by outward pressure on the latch 7. Frictional resistance to pivoting movement of the arms 3, 4 may be provided by forming a boss 14, Fig. 5, on the plate 10a to receive a thumbscrew 15, or the boss may be conical. In Fig. 8, the arms 3b, 4b are pivoted on the underside of the window, so that in the closed position they are wholly concealed. Wood screws and friction washers are used at the points of attachment. In another modification, the ends of the arms are joined by a plate which determines their spacing.
