[Class 74 (ii)] A superposed cylinder machine is provided with means for transferring loops from one wale to an adjacent wale, as in pelerine work. In one form transfer elements 8 are arranged in tricks in a disc 9 disposed between the two cylinders and are provided with butts 8e operable by cams in a cam ring 19 and with patterning butts 8f engageable by two cams 15 disposed apart angularly of the cylinders and vertically adjustable by pattern mechanism. Alternatively, pivoted transfer members 38 may be arranged in a bed disposed within the upper cylinder and may be selected for operation by levers 43 and pattern drum 48. The pattern drum may be racked backwards and forwards as described in Specification 443,736. The ends of the transfer members may be as shown in Fig. 4 having bowed portions 8a with loop-engaging shoulders 8c. In each form, web-holders 7 having inwardly directed portions 7b may be provided for holding down the loops drawn by the rib needles and cams operative upon the transfer elements 8 or 38 and the web-holders 7 may be provided so that the transfer elements are moved to inoperative position during rib knitting, and the web-holders 7 are withdrawn when the transfer elements are operative.
