[Class 74 (ii)] A circular rib machine having two-part dial needles, a, b is provided with means for passing all the dial needles through transfer operations while varying the movement of some of the castelements b to prevent effective transfer on those needles. In addition to the usual transfer cams 16, 17 for ejecting and retracting the needle hooks, as e.g., described in Specification 196,124, [Class 74 (ii)], two fixed cams 18, 19 and a movable cam 20 are provided. The cam 18 holds the hooks a in their retracted position until the cam 16 ejects them, and the cam 20 is arranged on the outer side of the cam 18 so as to eject the desired cast-off elements b at a point in advance of the ejecting of the hooks a, and to a position as shown in Fig. 2 in which the transfer points n<SP>20</SP> of the elements b are radially outside the portion n<SP>6</SP> of the hooks a. The cam 20 delivers the butts n<SP>16</SP> of the cast-off elements to the cam 19 which holds them in the outward position until they engage the usual cam 17. The result is that when the hooks a are ejected to transfer position by the cam 16, the point n<SP>20</SP> cannot engage the loop held by the hook a and transfer cannot take place. The cam 20 in its operative position may engage only the high operating butts n<SP>16</SP> of a hosiery machine so that the transfer on the instep dial needles is prevented when transferring loops from the heel dial needles to the cylinder needles.
