533,564. Connecting rods ; beamings. POTEZ, H. C. A. May 15, 1939, No. 14423. Convention date, May 17, 1938. [Class 122 (i)] A connecting rod arrangement for internal combustion engines having pistons connected in pairs to a common crank pin 6, comprises one connecting rod 1 having a forked end embracing the end of the other rod 8, the cap 9 of which lies close to the inner side 12 of the fork, a sleeve 5 fixed to the fork having a lubricating port 21 in line with an axial port 14 in the rod 1 leading to its small end, a port 20 in the cap 9, a port 23 in the crank pin which comprises a lubricant chamber, and a -second port 22 in the sleeve, the arrangement being such that at one point in each revolution of the crank shaft, the ports 23, 21, 20 and 14 are in line for the flow of lubricant to the small end of the rod 1 and at another point, the ports 23 and 22 are in line with an axial port 15 in the rod 8 to lubricate the small end of that rod. In a modification, sleeve 5 is secured to rod 8. The caps of the rods are forged by bending a straight bar and machining the ends 13 to form integral bolts as described in Specification 535,249.
