Abstract
572,354. Two-stroke engines. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV-UND MASCHINENFABRIK. May 5, 1944, No. 8552. Convention date, April 8, 1943. [Class 7 (ii)] The motion of two adjacent pistons 2, 3, of an internal combustion engine of the twostroke opposed piston type is transmitted by means of links 17, a common rocking lever 18, and a common connecting rod 26 to a crank pin 28, on the crank shaft 30 about which the cylinders are arranged tangentially to a circle 20, concentric with the axis 21 of the crankshaft and substantially at right angles to it. The rocking levers, pivoted about pins 24 secured in the casing 23 carry at their inner ends pins 25 to which are attached the connecting rods, and are formed with forks 31 of such width that after removing the pin 32 connecting the rocking lever and the link the corresponding piston can be withdrawn from the cylinder without interference. The crank pins 28 and 36 are disposed at 180 degrees to each other as are also crank pins 43 and 44. There may be more than four cylinders about the circle and a second series of four or more may be disposed about the correspondingly extended crank shaft as in Fig. 2.
