Abstract

532,459. Winding webs. EMPIRE ALUMINIUM CO., Ltd. (Anders A. Pindstofte's Maskinfabrik Aktieselskabet.). July 22, 1939, No. 21338. [Class 100 (i)] In a machine for printing on a strip, e.g. of aluminium foil and winding the strip into a roll, the winding spindle 7 is driven by a pulley 8 through a clutch, the pressure of which is increased automatically as the winding proceeds in order to keep the tension of the strip constant. The clutch pressure is applied by a spring 10 bearing against a nut 9 provided with sprocket teeth 11 around which passes a chain 12 attached at one end to an arm 16 on a shaft 17 to which is also secured an arm 14 carrying a roller held in contact with the roll 6a of strip by a weight on the free end of the chain 12.
