Abstract
531,918. Chimney cowls &c. TRIAIRE, C. July 13, 1939, No. 20479. Convention date, July 19, 1938. [Class 25] A deflector 2 adjustably mounted above a chimney extension 1 directs smoke downwardly into a sleeve 5 from which the soot or other solid material is led to a collector 18. A second sleeve 8 formed at the top and bottom of its outer surface with conical flanges 9, 10 surrounds the sleeve 5 and supports by brackets 17 a conical cap 12 surmounted by a cylinder 15 having a conical flange 14. Partitions 11 extend across the upper part of the sleeve 8. Air currents f<SP>1</SP>, f<SP>2</SP>, passing upwardly under the flange 10 or impinging downwardly on the cap 12 follow paths f<SP>2</SP>, f and exert a suction effect F on the smoke ascending around the deflector 2. The collector 18 is provided with an apertured vent tube 19 covered by a hood 21. A baffle 23 prevents the escape of solid material through the tube 19. The bottom of the collector is hoppershaped and is fitted with a grooved bolt or sliding shutter valve 28 past which the solid material may be discharged. Specification 531,919 is referred to.
