[Class 122 (i)] On a piston 1 for an internal combustion engine or the like, a ring or portion of a ring 6 of heat insulating material extends downwardly from the crown 2 to a point at or near the gudgeon pin boss 4 and then inwardly over the boss. The ring may or may not extend upwardly to the top of the crown. The piston 1 may be made from a light metal alloy and the ring 6 of iron or ferrous alloy.
