Abstract

528,584. Oil engines. HESSELMAN MOTOR CORPORATION, Ltd. April 27, 1939, No. 12682. Convention date, April 3. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 12, 1939.] [Class 7 (iii)] Groups of elements in a combustion chamber each comprise a fuel jet, a sparking or other ignition device, an exhaust valve and an inlet valve and each element of one group subtends with the corresponding member of another group the same angle as each other member subtends with the corresponding member of another group. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, air admitted through passages 1, 2 rotates about the cylinder axis in the direction of the arrow 21. One passage may be of greater cross section than the other and makes a larger angle with the cylinder axis. Fuel is delivered through a central nozzle 5 towards each exhaust valve 6, 7 and the mixture is ignited by diametrically opposed sparking plugs 8, 9. In modified constructions, the fuel is delivered through nozzles at the periphery of the combustion chamber either in the direction of air rotation over each inlet valve towards an exhaust valve or against the direction of air rotation over each exhaust valve towards an inlet valve. In Fig. 2 the inlet and exhaust valves are on opposite sides of the combustion chamber and a central nozzle delivers fuel towards each valve.
