Abstract
525,711. Motor-vehicle axles and driving gear. TRIGGS, W. W. (Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nurnberg Akt.-Ges.). Feb. 27, 1939, No. 6385. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iv)] A vehicle in which all four wheels are driven but the front wheels only are steered is characterized in that the front and rear axles 2, 3 are similar except for the wheel carriers 4, 5 which are connected to the axles by flanges 12, 13, the front wheel carriers containing in known manner the steering pivots and universal joints for the driving shafts. The axles may comprise casings containing the driving shafts, as shown, or they may be comprised of solid beams, the driving shafts in the latter case not being co-axial with the road wheels which are driven from the shafts through spur-gear reducing trains. The engine 14 drives the axles through change-speed gear 15, shaft 16, a gear-box 17 and shafts 18, 19.
