Abstract

1293921 Four-wheel-drive transmissions COUNTY COMMERCIAL CARS Ltd 19 Jan 1970 [17 Jan 1969] 2990/69 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] In a four-wheel-drive tractor having rear wheels 15 driven through differential gearing 12, the carrier 22 of the differential 12 has connected thereto a tubular shaft 28 carrying a bevel gear 30 in mesh with a bevel gear 31 on a stub shaft 32 which drives steerable front wheels 19a, 19b through a longitudinally-extending shaft 16 and front differential gearing 17. The tubular shaft 28 or the stub shaft 32 may be provided with clutch means for disconnecting the front wheel drive. A tractor may be converted to four wheel drive by substituting an enlarged axle casing 14 for the existing casing. In a modification, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the longitudinally extending shaft is disposed at a lower level and driven from the stub shaft through a train of spur gears.
