Abstract

In a racing or sports car having a rearmounted engine and four-wheel drive, front and rear differentials 14, 15 drive the wheels 11 through half-shafts 22, 23, an inter-axle differential 16 adjacent the front differential 14 has a front output shaft 20 connected to the front differential and a rear output shaft 19 which extends along one side of the vehicle and is connected to the rear differential 15, and a drive shaft 19 between the engine 12 and the inter-axle differential 16 extends along the same side of the vehicle as the rear output shaft 21. The engine 12 drives the shaft 19 through a clutch 18 and reduction gearing 17. The interaxle differential 16 may include means for limiting the speed difference between the output shafts 20, 21, and the drive shaft 19 may drive the inter-axle differential 16 through change-speed gearing housed within the differential easing. Fuel tanks 24 are disposed on either side of the driver, and a supercharger may be mounted in a space 13 behind the engine 12.
