Abstract
232,989. Schneider et Cie. April 28, 1924, [Convention date]. Ordnance design; chambers; riflings. -The bore of a gun barrel has two or more conical shoulders a, a<1> which act as stops for the driving band to vary the position of the projectile when firing with different charges for different ranges. For short ranges, a band C', Fig. 1, of a size to be stopped by the rear shoulder a<1>, is employed. For long ranges, a smaller driving band is employed which is stopped at the front shoulder a. The bore between the shoulders is smooth and either cylindrical or slightly conical. The commencing portion E of the rifling is either straight or only slightly inclined, to reduce the checking action on the dtiving band. In a modification, Fig. 3, the projectile has two driving bands C', C<2>, the front one being the smaller, and the barrel has three or more conical shoulders a - - a<2>.
