Abstract

518,868. Cylinders. RICARDO, H. R. July 28, 1938, No. 22447. [Class 7 (ii)] In a water-cooled cylinder block, the joint A between the cylinder head 18 and the cylinder jacket 10 is located at a lower level than the joint B between the head and the liner 13 to accommodate passages 32 for cooling water flowing between the liner and head jackets, the passages 32 being preferably arranged.to increase the cooling effect adjacent the exhaust passages. The joints A, B are provided respectively with a soft metal packing protected by a ring 30, on a hard metal packing, e.g., of copper.
