437,069. Cooling cylinders. CROSS, R. C., 33, Midford Road, Odd Down, Bath, Somerset. Oct. 31, 1934, No. 31228. [Class 7 (ii)] A cylinder 2 and a rotary valve 3, controlling admis sion and exhaust are surrounded by a common water jacket 10 having external air-cooling fins 9, which preferably has stream line formation as shown. The jacket is closed by a plate 12 having depend ing fins 14 formed to fit, with, or with out clearance round the valve housing. A head of water may be maintained in the jacket 10 by an upwardly projecting pipe ; alternatively, the jacket may form part of a circulating system. In a multicylinder engine, a group of cylinders may be surrounded by a single jacket. Ethyleneglycol mixed with water, or undiluted, may replace water on the cooling liquid.
