Abstract

517,695. Centrifugal pumps. CORNELL, E. S. Aug. 4, 1938, No. 23113. Convention date, Aug. 4, 1937. [Class 110 (i)] A pump for radiator heating-systems has a. tangential inlet 14 to a suction chamber 53 formed over the impeller chamber 16, the floor of chamber 53 being formed by an annular disc 42 carried by the impeller blades 40. Each blade is cut away near the centre for half its height to communicate with a corresponding inlet aperture 43 in the disc 42, which has a flange 54 overlying a ridge 55 in the suction chamber 53. The casing 12 is U-shaped with chambers 16, 53 eccentric, and is flanged and bolted to end flanges on the inlet and outlet pipes 35a, 36a. The inlet passage 14 is narrowed by a projecting wall 52 which directs the incoming water outwardly to an inlet port 14a of smaller diameter than that of the passage 14. The casing may be mounted on a resilient rubber ring 33 and may have the motor secured to it by rubber sleeves 20 and washers 20a or by a spring suspension. The outlet passage 15 is tangential to the impeller chamber 16.
