[Class 108 (i)] A vehicle underframe having two longitudinal frame members extending along the major length of the vehicle and connected by cross-members at intervals, has a portion of a transverse bulkhead of a vehicle body extending across the longitudinal frame members and engaging directly therewith at a position where the longitudinal frame members are connected together. Two longitudinal frame members 10, 11 of an omnibus underframe. which may be constructed as described in Specification 516 434, have extensions 17, 18 secured to their rear ends to support a rear platform, flanges 22 being formed on the extensions to which is riveted a cross-member 12 forming part of the rear bulkhead of the body. The member 12 is of Z-section and is reinforced by a member 15 on which the floor 31 of the vehicle rests. The member 12 may be deeper at the near side so that the rear platform, which rests at one edge on the bottom flange of the member 12, may have a slight slope. Angle pieces 25. 32 strengthen the joint. Beneath the forward bulkhead of the body another Z-shaped member 34 braces the members 10, 11, and a flange 43 on a lower transverse member 35 of the bulkhead is riveted to the member 34 by rivets 44 with appropriate distance pieces. Box-members 46 are riveted outside the members 10, 11 and plates 47 are connected by rivets 48, 49 respectively to the member 35 and members 46. Similar plates 50 connect the members 34 and 35. Alternatively the lower part of the bulkhead may itself form the cross-member for the members 10, 11.
