[Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a vehicle frame of the kind wherein the underframe extending across the axles also forms part of the framework of the vehicle-body, the underframe comprises laterally spaced longitudinal frame members extending along the major portion of the length of thevehicle and cross-members connecting these longitudinal members which are extended outwardly beyond them to afford mountings for the pillars of the body-work, and is characterised in that the extensions of the cross-members are connected to their central portions by means other than the longitudinal members in addition to being connected to the latter. The crossmembers 30. 31, 32, Fig. 2, are of approximately the..same depth as the longitudinal members 20, 21, and are formed in three parts. The central parts 39, 42, 45 serve to space the members 20, 21 and are connected to the outside parts 38, 40; 41, 43 and 44, 46 by plates 47, 50; 48, 51 and 49, 52; respectively. The rear crossmember 29 is continuous and is coupled to the members 20, 21 as described in Specification 516,727. Front cross-members 34, 35 are provided, and also upwardly inclined outrigger brackets 36, 37 over the wheel arches. Each cross-member 31, 32, 39 is connected to a longitudinal member and to a side pillar of the body-work as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. Rivets 62 connect turned-over end flanges 61 on the central part 45 and flanges on the outwardly extending part 44 to the member 20. The part 45 is of single channel section, but the part 44 is of double channel section and tapers as shown. The top and bottom flanges of the part 45 are continued outwardly in the form of triangular plates 49, 57, and are riveted to the parts 20, 44. Angle brackets 63, 64, 65 riveted to the part 44 are riveted to a supporting member 68 carrying a body-work pillar 69. The cross members 31, 32 are connected by a short longitudinal member 72, Fig. 2. A short cross member 75 having an outside extension 76 connects the member 72 to the member 20. A part 77 corresponding to the extension 76 is mounted on the member 21.
