Abstract
511,406. Fuel-injection pumps. L'ORANGE, P. Jan. 13, 1939, No. 1263. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] Fuel is supplied by a pump to the air-intake pipe of an internal-combustion engine through a throttling-aperture, and surplus fuel is returned to the pump through a further throttling-aperture, the two apertures being adjusted simultaneously in opposite senses in accordance with the negative pressure in the air-intake pipe, and if desired also the atmospheric pressure. Fig. 1 shows a fuel pump H supplying an injector C in the air-intake pipe A through pipes F, D and the lower end of a throttling-aperture J<1> in a valve J, which is controlled by a diaphragm K subjected by a pipe M to the pressure in the pipe A, surplus fuel being returned through the opposite end of the aperture J<1> and a pipe G. As the suction in the pipe A increases, the valve J<1> is raised to increase the aperture for return of fuel and decrease that which supplies fuel to the injector. Fig. 2 shows a construction of the valve J in which the aperture J<1> and diaphragm K<1> are arranged as shown. Other constructions of valve are described with different forms of apertures, the air-intake pressure in some cases acting beneath the diaphragm. When correction for atmospheric pressure is desired; the other side of the diaphragm is connected to a constant-pressure chamber.
