Abstract

511,278. Turbine bidding. WHITTLE, F. Dec. 15, 1937, Nos. 34687/37 and 1063/38. [Class 110 (iii)] The entry and leaving angles of the blades of an axial flow turbine or turbine type compressor, vary progressively from the root to the tip so as to conform to the condition that the whirl velocity of the working fluid, over any entry plane or leaving plane, varies inversely as the radius. Rotor blades 16 are shrouded at 19 and run within a corrugated stator surface 20. A space 15 between the stator blades or nozzles 10 and the rotor blades is of a width at least a quarter and preferably more than half of the chordal dimension of the blades.
