Abstract

509,163. Roller mountings for drawing-frames. GREEVES, Ltd., J. & T. M., and EVES, R. V. Feb. 12, 1938, No. 4443. [Class 120 (ii)] The front drawing roller A, Fig. 1, of a machine for drawing flax, wool, or other fibres, extends at one or both ends A<1> beyond the main supporting bearings B, pressure or resistance being provided for the overhung end or ends so as to counteract the tendency for the roller to sag due to the weight on the pressing rollers, thus reducing the sag or permitting the use of smaller diameter rollers. Bearings C are provided upon the overhung end or ends and a downward pressure applied by a spring W, or by a weight or weighted lever. The bearings B, C are ball-bearings, the former being mounted on swing brackets, D. In a modification the springs W, are omitted and the screws e<1> extended to engage pins f. In another arrangement the drawing roller A is supported to traverse in bearings B, C so mounted in fixed housings as to apply a downward thrust on the overhung ends A<1>, Fig. 3. The housings are adjustable by screws or by the insertion and removal of metal plates while in a modification the bearings may be of plain brass or white metal in fixed housings, Fig. 4. In machines with two or more heads the drawing roller is extended at both ends of the machine.
