[Class 134] Each rib comprises hinged parts 18, 20, Fig. 2, consisting of several wires 44, 46 arranged side by side. The wires may consist of steel and the wires of the lower part 20 are of finer gauge. Rusting may be prevented by cadmium plating the frame, and the fittings are formed of nickel-silver or brass and are suitably secured on knurled parts of the ribs ; the joints may be soldered, brazed or spot-welded. A sheet-metal member 60 is curled around the wires to space them apart and is provided with ears 48 to facilitate fixing to the topnotch 54. The stretchers are secured to collars 64, and one part of the hinge has a flange 82 to hold the opened rib parts in position. A sheet-metal member 94 supports the rib tip 98. The spring catch for the runner comprises a spring 106, Fig. 8, secured in a groove in the stick 12 and in a groove in a sleeve 112. The spring is pressed inwardly by a lever 34 carried by the runner. The handle 122, Fig. 9, is screwed on a tube 132 which slides within the lower part of the telescopic stick ; the sliding movement is limited by a pin 136 which is secured to the handle through a spring 138. A spring 126 within a flange 128 on the handle holds the runner in position, and the hinges of the ribs or the rib tips, when the ribs are unfolded are hold by a flange 130.
