[Class 134] In a folding umbrella in which the cover rods 9 form a lazy-tongs arrangement and are twisted so that in the collapsed condition spaces are formed between adjacent rods to house the folds of the cover, the cover is so constructed that, when the umbrella is opened, it extends below, and holds the runner 8 in position. The stick may comprise telescopic members and a crown 5 secured thereto by a button 4, movement of which is prevented by a screw 6. The crown 5 carries a tube 7 on which the runner 8 is adapted to slide. The rods may be pivoted together by means of hollow rivets to which the cover is secured. One rod 13 of the last pair may terminate at the pivot 14 and the portion 11<1> of the rod 11 may be relatively short. The part 15<1> of the rod 15 may be twisted through 90 degrees. The runner may slide directly on the stick which in another form may be dispensed with. A case for the umbrella may be provided with a sliding-clasp fastener.
