Abstract

508,964. Drying fabrics. MILLSPAUGH, W. H. Jan. 7, 1938, No. 522. [Class 34 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] A suction press for removing water from textiles &c. has a suction box 3 connected by openings 7 with a slot 4 bounded laterally and at its ends by packing 5, the box 3 also having a longitudinal raised portion 6. The openings 7 may be lined by screwed sleeves 8 and are slightly greater than the minimum necessary to allow withdrawal of the air and water passing through the perforations of the roll shell, the arrangement preventing re-absorption of the water expressed at the nip of the press. The packing 5 may be of babbitt metal, chemically treated fibre, rubber with textiles, or wood. The box 3 has a removable cover 9 so that selected openings 7 may be closed &c. The roll shell 1 may be rubber-covered and may cooperate with a lower rubber-covered suction roll &c. and some perforations 2a may be open to the atmosphere as disclosed in Specification 457,858, [Group VIII]. In a medication there are two interconnected slots 4.
