Abstract

1,078,634. Paper-making apparatus. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. Sept. 1, 1964 .No. 35723/64. Heading D2A. [Also in Division F4] A wet press comprises a plain press roll 9, at least three suction rolls 7, 10, 11 forming nips therewith, and felts arranged around the suction rolls, the spacing of the suction rolls and the nip pressures applied at the press nips being so determined that the weight of roll 9 and the forces or loads applied to roll 9 at the press nips are balanced. Roll 9 may be of granite or cast iron and has a rubber cover. The suction rolls may be the same size as roll 9, or smaller and of different sizes. Roll 11 has a high vacuum box 17 and a low vacuum one 18. Felts 13, 14 may be replaced by a single felt which is conditioned before passing around roll 11. There may be a suction couch roll 2 and suction rolls 6 and 8, while roll 15 may comprise a perforated shell having a pressure compartment to separate the paper web from felt 14. Doctor 20 or air jets remove the web from roll 9.
