508,942. Motor vehicles. STEYRDAIMLER-PUCH AKT.-GES. Nov. 30, 1937, No. 33023. Convention date, Oct. 26. [Classes 79 (ii), 79 (iii), 79 (iv) and 79 (v)] A motor-vehicle chassis, suitable for various purposes, such as tractors, endless-track vehicles, armoured cars, &c., comprises an engine 1 arranged over one of the axles, laterally of and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, with the driver's seat alongside and with the clutch 2 and gearbox 3 between the engine and the rear end of the vehicle so as to leave the space between the axles clear. Steering means 9, 91 may be provided at each end, one or both pairs of wheels being steerable. The drive is transmitted through a centrally arranged cardan shaft 4 to the front wheels and may be carried on to the rear wheels by a shaft 6. The engine is so disposed that, cooling air therefor may be drawn by a blower 11 from the interior of the vehicle and discharged through openings at the side. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the frame construction comprising longitudinal members 14 which are extended downwards in the vicinity of the axles and closed by bottom plates to protect the gearing &c. and are also connected to inverted U-shaped transverse members 16 which shield the axles &c. It is also stated that, to facilitate driving in both directions by a driver in the front seat, an optical arrangement giving a rear view in conjunction with a reversing gear interposed in the steering gear may be provided, as described in Austrian Specification 463,753. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
