508,759. Forced - flow steam boilers. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 4, 1938, No. 28762. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1937. [Class 123 (ii)] In a flow-through boiler in which all the working medium flows into a separator from which part of the unevaporated water is continuously discharged and the rest passes with the steam to an auxiliary evaporator and a superheating zone, the separator has one water discharge opening of constant cross-sectional area and another of variable size controlled by a thermostat at the beginning of the superheating zone which also controls the feedwater supply. In an installation providing a separator 3 between an evaporator section II and an auxiliary evaporator III of a tube system part of the separated liquid is continuously discharged through an opening 5 of constant cross-section and part may be discharged through a valve 7 controlled by a thermostat 4 at the beginning of a superheater section IV. Control members 2, 6 regulating feedwater supply and firing are also actuated by the thermostat. The salt concentration of the water entering the separator may be varied by altering the temperature at which thermostat 4 operates. A second thermostat 8 beyond the superheater controls an additional supply of water to a point beyond thermostat 4; and may also control a valve 10 before the engine 13 and a valve 12 byepassing the engine. A pressure-responsive member 11 may also increase the opening of valve 10 with an increase of pressure, valve 12 opening when valve 10 is fully open and the pressure continues to increase.
