Abstract

507,710. Pumps. PURDAY, H. F. P., and REBBECK, F. E. June 25, 1938, No. 18865. [Class 7 (ii)] The cylinders of a twostroke engine are scavenged and charged by a freely-rotating outward radial-flow turbine F which is connected to the cylinder exhaust ports by a pipe E; during each cycle the first high-pressure exhaust causes rotation of the turbine, which may carry a flywheel D, and its momentum continues the rotation and scavenges and charges the cylinders. A separate turbine may be provided for each cylinder, and one or more coolers may be interposed in the path of the exhaust, gases between the cylinders and the turbine.
