507,281. Shaping grinding - wheels. COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO., Ltd., HARLEY, S. J., and WAINWRIGHT, J. E. Oct. 1, 1938, No. 28561. [Class 60] In dressing or shaping the operative surface of a multi-ribbed grinding-wheel intended for grinding internal or external screw-threads, or for other form grinding, the grinding wheel 6, illustrated as for grinding screw-threads, is rotatably mounted in a head allowing it to be moved to engage the work 8, or a diamond tool 16, carried by an attachment 3 mounted on the work slide 5, which is movable axially of the wheel 6 by a lead screw 9. The tool 16 is carried by a member 11 on a slide 12 movable radially of the wheel 6 by a cam 13 engaging a stylus 14 on the slide 12, which is carried by a plate 15 rockable about the axis of the cam; the combined movements due to the screw 9 and the cam 13 cause the tool 16 to generate on the work a series of annular serrations, and in order to give these a shape such that the thread cut will have the required profile, the wheel 6 is treated with the tool 16 displaced to various angular positions, as shown in Fig. 6, about the axis of the cam.
