Abstract

500,365. Speed governors. LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd., and MARKLAND, S. Aug. 9, 1937, No. 21902. [Class 57] The regulating rod 1 of a fuel-injection pump is actuated at speeds below full speed by a governor comprising a diaphragm 3 exposed to suction in the induction pipe, and at speeds above full speed by a centrifugal governor 11. At idling speed the diaphragm 3 engages a piston 7 having a vent 10 to damp movements. As the speed increases to the. neighbourhood of full speed a lever 21 actuated by the centrifugal governor 11 moves and causes an abutment 24 to engage the lever 26 and reduce the fuel supply. Movements of the governor 11 are damped by the dash pot 23. A cam 36 operated by rod 38 limits the maximum fuel supply and a recess 35 allows extra fuel for starting. An arm 29 is moved by a lever and engaging the pin 32 moves the rod 1 to stop the engine. In a modification the maximum fuel stop is adjusted simultaneously with the throttle in the induction pipe.
