499,432. Materials for making coke. JONES. W. 1., JONES, D. C.R., and POWELL DUFFRYN ASSOCIATED COLLIERIES, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1937, No. 35428. [Class 55 (ii)] Low temperature coke is obtained from cokeovens normally used for the production of high temperature coke by carbonizing a mixture of coking coal with a carbonaceous material of low bulk density such as sawdust, wood shavings, peat, straw, or the like, which, after being carbonized reduces in volume to such an extent that the carbonized residue can easily be discharged. A blend of coking coal with coke breeze or anthracite may be used instead of coal alone. The addition of the material of low bulk density is from 3 to 8 per cent, and the flue temperature of the ovens is from 600 to 800‹ C. Specifications 14678/07 and 23202/07, [both in Class 55], are referred to.
