Abstract

Powdered fuel mixtures comprising coal, coke, sawdust, tan bark, peat, lignite, anthracite or carbonaceous residuums and capable of being briquetted and burnt in free air are compressed at pressures inhibiting combustion except under conditions of artificial draught. Pressures exceeding 4000 lb. per sq. in. are referred to but less pressures, e.g. 2500 lb. per sq. in. may be used if applied for a period exceeding 1/6 second. A diagram accompanying the Provisional Specification shows the effect of varying degrees of dwell of particular moulding pressures upon the hardness of the briquette. Specifications 16500/09, 14841/11, 5019/15, 148,115, [all in Class 87 (ii)], and 372,282, [Group XII], are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 10550/10, 20679/14, [both in Class 87 (ii)], 363,679, 402,107, and 402,139, [all in Group XII].
