Abstract

414,366. Agglomerating fuel. ROBERTS, A. A., Imperial House, Kingsway, London. Oct. 26, 1932, No. 29981. [Class 50.] In the manufacture of briquettes from carbonaceous materials, a cementitious binder in excess of that necessary for the bond is added to the mixture and the combustion temperature maintained by the addition of an accelerator comprising a boron compound such as boric acid. The carbonaceous material may comprise coal, coke, sawdust, tan bark, peat, lignite, anthracite and residuums ; the binder may comprise mineral cements, preferably 6 per cent by weight, sulphite lye or lime ; and the accelerator may comprise as an addition to the boron compound, metallic salts. Bitumen and water may be added to the mixture to assist the bond and copper sulphate or strontium compounds to impart colour to the flame. The moulding pressure is in excess of that necessary for maintaining the coherence of the briquette and may be as high as 6000 lbs. per square inch.
