[Class 35] A polyphase shunt commutator motor has resistance or reactance in the primary circuit and resistance in the secondary circuit for high speed operation and resistance in the secondary circuit only for low speed operation. The resistance and reactance are preferably of such values as to give the motor a stalling torque of about twenty per cent above full load torque and typical speed torque characteristics are given.
